Our Gurumauli Shri Vitthal Waman Ratnakar alias Ratnakar Maharaj alias Nana Maharaj, born at Sogaon near Murbad, Tal. Shahapur, Dist. Thane on 6th May, 1933 at auspicious time of Bramha Muhurta, as per Hindu Almanac, it was Mohini Ekadashi of Vaishakh Month. More details are available in the Granth [ Book ] called "SHRI SADGURU RATNAKAR CHARITRAMRUTA". This book is available here under Sub Menu. Originally, they were called Joshi. They are from Ashwee ( Umbri ) near Kinawali, Dist. Nagar. Due to the designation Kulkarni of Ashwee, they were known as Kulkarni. RATNAKAR is the award given to his forefathers by PESHAWA, a few centuries ago for authority in Astrology. This is the tradition in his family for generations. After 16 generations they came to Sogaon, our Gurumauli's birthplace.
At the age of 10, Gurumauli got Gurumantra from Sadguru Nirwan Baba on Aaja Mountain. This place is near Shahapur, dist. Thane. At the age of 16 he had been to Shrungasram, near Malegaon, for Isolated Tapa Sadhana. This was his first experience of Isolated Tapa Sadhana and Meditation. He spent months together for Isolated Tapa Sadhana at Bhima Shankar, Amboli Ghat, Abu Pahad and hilly areas of Satpuda Mountain in his life.
Sadguru Nirwan Baba asked Nanaji to start Darbar [ Open discussion with people, to solve problems and difficulties of people. In simple words this is Question Answer Session ]. Gurumauli used this opportunity to solve problems of people. While doing so, he never considered self- comfort. Nana Maharaj was interested to solve the problems of people as early as possible, in the process he was losing his energy, Power and some time money also to help needy people. People with lost charm on face due to various problems and difficulties used to come to Darbar, after talking to Nana Maharaj, entire scene would change, depression changing into happiness and enthusiasm. Gurumauli was as good as Almighty God. Gurumauli maintained the tradition created by Shri Gurudatta, Shripad Shri Vallabh and up to Shri Saibaba and at the same time handled the situation differently considering the changes in standard of living and approach of the people.
